Day two – Cattolica to Gubbio

Posted by Vicki Smith on June 17th, 2012 at 4:46 pm

Today we are splitting from the group and heading straight to Gubbio, an ancient small town that boasts the second largest Roman amphitheater in existence.  The ride over is perfect, no traffic, a relief after the non-stop traffic in Rimini, and the tunnels along the route are crisp and cool, the weather simply perfect, the temp in the low 80’s.  A perfect morning ride.

We pass a scooter crash which seems to be providing the morning’s entertainment in the town, dog walkers and people strolling by are literally pulling up chairs to watch what looks to me to be a fairly harmless get off.  The town itself is lovely and there’s a small street fair.  I am always lucky at Italian street fairs and today was no exception – 5 euros for two original Ducati radio ads from 1946, a great find to be celebrated with gelato and people watching.  The Silverstone GP is on the TV, just a lovely lazy day until the garden party and wine soaked Ducati club dinner to come.  Now it’s 1 am and I am very aware my wake up call for Assisi is at 6am….
