About Ducati.net

Wondering what this site all about? Well, mostly, Ducati.net is a labor of love. It grew out of a need for a support group back in the early 90's when the USA Ducati dealer network was small. I had an 851 and then a 916, and access to information and upgrade parts was important and difficult.  We were the first group of this type, the internet was such a new resource, even Ducati themselves didn't yet have a website.  We started as a emailing list, a way to communicate, but what soon became clear was what was returning back to the Ducati.net members was much more than we ever expected. And in my case, I can honestly say being on the front side of the technology changed my life in many ways I never saw coming. I met people in other countries and they became friends even though we had never met - all common now but back then, well, it really was a new way of life. More importantly I did meet a lot of them in person and we all traveled many miles to make this happen. Places like Italy and California, so far away for many of us, became places we met every year. The only real rule we had here from the beginning was to look at this list like a Saturday hang out at your local motorcycle shop where friends gathered to swap stories, knowledge, bikes and parts. Using this philosophy real names were preferred, posts were signed and nobody was allowed to say things to hurt others just because they were a faceless email address. It was a radical concept at the time when nobody used real names on the internet but it worked really well for us.

Over the years this group has become a sort of family. Turns out there are a few thousand people here who have a lot more in common than just Ducati's, including some very wise Ducatista, so generous with their time and advice who enjoy helping and educating those who know less than they do about these machines we all love. Ducati.net has also grown to enjoy official Ducati support -  we were honored to recognized as an official Ducati Owners Club in 2001 in the first group the Ducati factory endorsed. As a member of this group, in addition to the benefits of camraderie and advice, you also have access to all the benefits of DOC membership. (See the link to Project Mugello at IndyGP for an example of what this means) Finally, over the years we have been privledged to have mentored a number of other clubs that have met and florished in this forum and gone on to create local groups.

Ducati.net came from a crazy whim I had one afternoon when things were slow at work but has turned out to be one of those Forks in the Road of Life that you never see coming. What I have found here is a lot more than than what I expected so I maintain this website partially in thanks for the wisdom, both Ducati and life (and Italy) that I have found here. Please join us, (membership is free of charge) enjoy the wisdom and friendship this group has to offer and we hope to see you at a Ducati event somewhere in the future.

Regards,
Vicki Smith
