American Nick Hayden tweeted Jan. 6 that he will not need surgery for the broken shoulder blade and ribs suffered in a flat-track training accident Dec. 27 at home in Kentucky.

2006 World Champion Hayden recently visited the orthopedist to the two-wheeled stars, Dr. Arthur Ting, in California for an examination of the shoulder blade.

Hayden also defended the choice of so many riders to train on motocross or flat-track bikes despite the risk of injury - Hayden, Andrea Dovizioso and Valentino Rossi are among the MotoGP riders hurt in the dirt in the last year - by retweeting a post from Moto2 standout Bradley Smith: "Do you think Racers would ride Motocross if we didn't feel it was of 'benefit' to us #readingstupidcomments."
