Ducati Alstare rider Carlos Checa's World Superbike weekend has come to an abrupt end. A huge crash in free practice at the Istanbul Park track earlier this morning means he has been ruled out...
The Spaniard had a nasty highside on turn 2, and was taken to the Clinica Mobile as a result, where doctors diagnosed a contusion to the upper thorax as well as a possible fracture of the left scaphoid. Unfortunately Checa will be unable to continue this weekend; further medical tests are required in order to establish when he will be able to return to the track.
Checa’s team-mate Ayrton Badovini also crashed in free practice and had to miss the opening qualifying session this afternoon. But just ten minutes from the end of the first session he too crashed, losing the front at Turn 12.

Carlos Checa (Team Ducati Alstare) is eagerly awaiting Round 7 of the eni FIM Superbike World Superbike Championship, scheduled for 30 June at Imola. The 40 year old rider from Sant Fruitos de Bages, Spain, has won five of the last six races held on the Italian venue, and is certainly looking for more after a difficult start of the season.
"Despite still not having full movement in the joint, the Spaniard is confident of his chances to be fully fit to ride the newly "air-restrictor free" 1199 Panigale R on the challenging track near Bologna."

It is not an easy year, speaking about sport, for Ducati. In addition to the developing difficulties of MotoGp project, significant problems occurred in the SBK area (historically a land of conquest for Borgo Panigale's Production House).
After the initial enthusiasm with the clinched Superpole in Phillip Island, the 1199 Panigale has always struggled in race. Neither the effort of Carlos Checa were useful enough, never on the podium and twelftht in the general ranking with 29 points, nor those of a skilled team like the Alstar one. General manager Berhnard Gobmeiertried to explain the problem of the last emilian superbike.

Carlos Checa says he refuses to lose focus on the challenge of turning the Alstare Ducati 1199 Panigale into a front runner after a tough weekend at Assen appeared to highlight the bike's general lack of pace.
Having burst onto the scene with a stunning pole position at Phillip Island, the new twin-cylinder machine has struggled to make more headlines since, with accidents preventing Checa from capitalising on his qualifying efforts in Australia before the high-speed Motorland Aragon circuit revealed the bike's top speed disadvantage.

After yesterday’s superb Superpole victory, expectations were high for good results today and Carlos Checa made his intentions clear by making a good start in the first of the two 22-lap races. At the end of the first lap, he was in third place before forcing his way into second spot after five laps. From then on he was locked in a battle for a podium place with Haslam and Melandri and although he could catch and pass his rivals on the brakes and in the turns, he was losing out on the straights. Trying to pass Melandri on the brakes going into Siberia, Carlos inadvertently clipped the back end of the Italian’s BMW, causing both to crash.

Team SBK Ducati Alstare faced various challenges in today’s opening sessions of the 2013 World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island. Although conditions at the Australian track were almost perfect during today’s free practice and first qualifying sessions, with sunshine and very little wind, both Carlos Checa and Ayrton Badovini suffered crashes during the practice which made afternoon qualifying all the more difficult for the pair.

The countdown to the start of the 2013 World Superbike championship continues… The season’s opening races are set to get underway this Friday at the Phillip Island circuit in Australia and Team SBK Ducati Alstare and its riders Carlos Checa and Ayrton Badovini are fully prepared for this exciting challenge.
Having completed a series of very useful tests in recent days, the team is busy making final preparations to the new 1199 Panigale bikes ahead of this weekend’s action. Both riders will take the opportunity to rest up over the next two days, with Carlos recuperating from an intestinal problem and Ayrton from a hematoma near the liver that resulted from last week’s crash.

It 'lasted a year, the remoteness of Francis Batta Superbike. In 2013, except for last minute surprises, the manager of the Belgian and Ducati will sign an agreement that binds them for next season.
Will be an official team to all effects (which might be called again Ducati-Alstare as in the past) and the structure of the team is ready to 90%.

Another complicated race day for the Althea Racing team today at the ‘Autodromo Internacional do Algarve’.
In race 1 Carlos Checa rode a great race to take his first podium since Brno while Davide Giugliano was robbed of his chance to do well after a collision early on in the race forced him to retire. In the second of the day’s races Giugliano was once again unlucky, suffering from presumed tyre problems while Checa was able to bounce back after a technical issue in the early stages to cross the line fifth.
After two hot and sunny days the Superbike paddock awoke to heavy rain and poor visibility on the Portimao track. After only a fifteen minute warm-up, the riders had little time to prepare for racing in these conditions.

WSBK News. Just 150 points remain on the table for the World Superbike Championship contenders and Carlos Checa needs each one to keep him in the title fight...
Carlos Checa's reign as World Superbike Champion could be brought to an end with two rounds of the 2012 season remaining if his flagging title campaign takes another significant blow at the Nurburgring.
The reigning champion was a race winner for Althea Ducati around the German circuit last season, but stands to lose his crown as early as round 12 of 14 if he doesn't stay within 100 points of current front runner Marco Melandri by the end of the weekend.
As it stands, Checa is currently fourth overall and 75 points behind Melandri, so the Italian needs to score 25 points more than his rival over the two races to ensure neither he nor Ducati can secure back-to-back titles.

Reigning champion Carlos Checa claims his first World Superbike pole position of the season at the Moscow Raceway, ahead of Tom Sykes, Eugene Laverty and Leon Haslam.
Reigning World Superbike Champion Carlos Checa will start from pole position for the first time this season after dominating the opposition during qualifying at the brand-new Moscow Raceway.
The Spaniard has been in excellent form since arriving in Russia for the first time, but having faced stiff competition from his Althea Ducati team-mate Davide Giugliano in the run up to Superpole, the fight for pole position remained fairly open.
However, it was Checa that would prevail as he pumped in a superb lap of 1min 34.193secs, which would prove more than four tenths faster than any other rider.

WSBK News. Carlos Checa decides against pushing for victory at Silverstone as he labels the first race conditions as 'dangerous'.
Carlos Checa says he can be satisfied with a fifth and sixth place finish considering the circumstances after rain spoiled his hopes of victory at Silverstone.
The Spaniard was one of the favourites for the victory around the circuit he won twice at in 2011, but while he was certainly looking in command in the dry as he opened up a three second lead at the half-way point of the opening race, he slipped back when the rain arrived.
Opting to allow the top four to jostle for position ahead of him, Checa was happy enough to reach the finish line given the 'dangerous' conditions.
“The conditions, especially in race one, were dangerous; racing in the wet with slick tyres is obviously no fun for anyway, although it probably makes for exciting races for the spectators,” he said.
