His desire to continue racing is well known so when it looked like there was a chance that the seat was open Troy offered and the team said yes.

At the end of a very successful season, the Ducati 1199 Panigale R, ridden by the Argentinian rider Leandro ‘Tati’ Mercado of the Barni Racing Team, has triumphed in the final round at Magny-Cours to secure the riders’ title in the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup
- Three different riders have powered the 1199 Panigale R to the podium in six out of seven races, including three race wins
- This is the fifth riders’ title for Ducati in the Superstock 1000 category since 2007

The countdown to the start of the 2013 World Superbike championship continues… The season’s opening races are set to get underway this Friday at the Phillip Island circuit in Australia and Team SBK Ducati Alstare and its riders Carlos Checa and Ayrton Badovini are fully prepared for this exciting challenge.
Having completed a series of very useful tests in recent days, the team is busy making final preparations to the new 1199 Panigale bikes ahead of this weekend’s action. Both riders will take the opportunity to rest up over the next two days, with Carlos recuperating from an intestinal problem and Ayrton from a hematoma near the liver that resulted from last week’s crash.

World Superbike is expected to announce after the Magny-Cours round next week that the Ducati 1199 Panigale will not incur the same 6kg weight ballast penalty as the current Ducati 1098R Superbike. A part of WSBK’s fluidic formula for Superbike racing, World Superbike rules allow for the air intake to be restricted and weight ballast to be added to twin-cylinder motorcycles on an prescribed basis, to compensate for the 200cc displacement capacity advantage the twins have over the four-cylinder machines.

WSBK News. “I want to set-up and improve the Panigale and probably, if things are going well, race with that bike next year” - Carlos Checa.
If all goes to plan, Carlos Checa will remain with Althea Ducati to race the new 1199 Panigale in next year's World Superbike Championship.
