In January, Roadracing World Editor-in-Chief John Ulrich penned an editorial where he outlined his desire to create a three-event road racing series that would take place between the six-week time
period of AMA Pro Road Racing’s first and second rounds. This “triple crown” event would be help bolster the current five — hopefully to be announced six — events on the AMA Pro Road Racing calendar, which in-turn would help AMA Pro Racing teams and riders meet their obligations with their sponsors.

The long-awaited AMA Pro Road Racing calendar for the 2014 season has been released, and motorcycle racing fans will be shocked to hear that America’s premier series has been reduced to just five race weekends this year, with the hopes of a sixth weekend being added to the mix.

There are days where we truly wonder about the future of AMA Pro Road Racing. Like the rest of the motorcycle industry, America’s premier motorcycle racing series was devastated by the recession and tough economy; that is factor external to the series, and no one could fault AMA Racing for facing some challenges because of it.

Throwback Thursday, Vicki’s View of one of the most unexpected Ducati/AMA weekends ever
This weekend Michele Pirro will compete in the Mugello MotoGP on the “Lab” bike, (seemingly entered for the purposes of gathering data during the race weekend) and Ben Spies will return to competition while still mending from a shoulder injury. It reminded me of a similar situation almost 10 years ago.
It’s been so long since Ducati has had a supported AMA team that some people might not know that for quite a few years, on most AMA weekends Paolo Ciabatti and Davide Tardozi made the 10 hour trip as part of a variety of AMA team efforts over the years, splitting their time and efforts between the SBK team and the AMA one....

Mixed results, injured riders. MugelloGP? LeMans SBK? Nope. AMA VIR 2004. A tale of Ducati history repeating itself.

Ducati.net recently sat down at with Jake Zemke, rider of the Ducshop Racing 848 EVO. With similar backgrounds and friendships going back years, we couldn’t help but notice the divergence the careers of ex-Honda factory riders, Zemke and Hayden have taken, yet here they are, after all the years, racing again with the same manufacturer (Ducati), something that we’d be willing to bet neither saw coming as a career path. And that is where the similarities stop.

A very well known and experienced AMA Pro rider, Ducshop Racing's Jake Zemke tells us about his racing roots, Ducshop's big effort in AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike and the rider talent he sees in the series..
AMAP: Where are you from?
JZ: I’m from Paso Robles, California. I’ve lived there since 1984. Family is pretty much the reason we ended up here. My mom’s parents live in San Luis Obispo right down the road.. and that’s kind of how we ended where we’re at.
AMAP: California is a very motorcycle oriented state. Is there an area that you like to go riding at in particular?
JZ: For sure. In winter time, the favorite spot to go riding was Clear Creek. Unfortunately, it’s been closed for a couple years now. They’re working to get it reopened, but at the moment, it’s closed. It’s always been a really fun place for us to go riding in the winter time. It’s a challenging area where they used to have an AMA National Enduro there. Many great riders from the past like Ricky Graham and Doug Chandler would go riding there. When some of the guys lived a little north of me, it became a convenient spot for us all to meet up and ride. Another great place I like to go riding is Zaca Station, which is south of me. It’s an awesome facility for outdoor motocross.
AMAP: How did you get into riding motorcycles?
JZ: When I was born, my dad had just started racing amateur flat track. I was born in San Francisco, and he was racing flat track in Northern California, so I basically grew up being around motorcycles and the racetrack. After that, we moved to Michigan, and that’s when I got my first motorcycle. My dad was still racing at that point, so by default, I ended up at the racetrack with the motorcycle.. .and the rest is history....More here

Imagine a beautiful crisp morning, you’re getting motivated to go out on track, now the only thing left to do is make it through technical safety inspection! Do you find yourself asking, did I safety wire my motorcycle right? What are the regulations this organization has to make it out on track? If thoughts like this have ever put a damper on your track experience, then read on. In this Tech Tuesday article, AMA Pro Racing would like to help you understand why it is important to have certain items wired correctly. We would also like to give insight from the experts at the Federal Aviation Administration on what the proper safety wire techniques are.
Everyone has their own methods of safety wiring, which are all variations, some proper and some improper, of ways to safety wire and secure one item to another. The FAA has some of the strictest standards set on safety wiring and securing items, and AMA Pro Racing has adopted standards of safety wiring based upon the plethora of information that has been produced by the FAA....For the whole story click here: http://amaproracing.com/rr/news/index.cfm?cid=51703

This Saturday marks the 71st running of the Daytona 200.
The Daytona 200 once again features the Daytona SportBike class. The D200 always makes for a robust starting grid, and 47 riders are on the provisional entry list. Unique on the AMA schedule as an endurance race, the 200-mile affair requires mental resilience, savvy pit strategy, and good luck. In recent years, controversy at the D200 has overshadowed the racing action. Last year’s race featured multiple red flags and long delays. The latter was from faulty tires, with track officials shortening the race and forcing all teams to pit for a mandatory tire change. There was also a terrifying crash at the finish line... Here’s to hoping the 2012 Daytona runs incident free.
This year’s DSB roster features an interesting mix of seasoned vets and rising stars. While perennial DSB title-contender Josh Herrin and two-time champ Danny Eslick (2009, 2011) graduated to the SuperBike ranks, the talent pool is arguably deeper for 2012. Martin Cardenas returns to DSB aboard the GEICO-sponsored Suzuki, while 2008 Formula Xtreme champ, Jake Zemke, marks his return to full-time AMA racing aboard the Ducshop Ducati...more

This week’s Tech Tuesday article is about the improving the suspension components on your motorcycle. Changing the suspension on your motorcycle is probably one of the simplest component changes that can be done, and give you the best bang for the buck. On average the first performance enhancing purchase a person makes on their new motorcycle is an exhaust or a fuel management system. The purchase of motorcycle suspension upgrades for the average street riders are the last thing on the upgrade list. A person that does track days or races occasionally knows that the suspension upgrades would put upgrading the suspension higher on the” to do” list, Why is that?
On average the motorcycles stock suspension is not bad, the materials that make up the suspension components are of good sound quality. The major problem with stock motorcycle suspension is its set up for a generic rider. The components inside the fork tubes and shocks are made to work for a generic setting for street. When the suspension is set correctly, it allows the motorcycle to gain or maintain traction by aiding the tires to maintain contact with the ground surface. This added traction is caused because the motorcycle has better ability to transfer weight, and better absorb upward and downward momentum when it needs to...more
