Did the first "naked bike" save Europe?
They raised me Catholic back there in the Midwestern ’burb, but parochial school was too expensive, so every Saturday morning, it was off to catechism class. While the other kids watched cartoons on all three channels, I learned about the wages of sin and memorized all your popular prayers, motivated by the knowledge that failure would lead to the fiery pit for eternity. Warm would be good, at least. My dad had a preference for American Motors vehicles; the strain of the Ambassador’s starter motor working against those winter mornings only added to the dread as our AMC delivered us from evil through the dirty snow. The school building was as cold as Ann Coulter’s exercise bike, drafty and nobody ever changed the urinal cakes. The girls were maturing faster and seemed even angrier about losing their Saturdays; impending puberty hung in the air and had the nuns on DEFCON 1 constantly, rulers poised. We’re not here to have fun, kids, in this vale of tears. Motorcycles? Those are for people who don’t want to wait in line to greet Satan. Inspired by the church, then later by Bob Dylan, I joined the Army. It wanted to send me to California. How could I argue?

For the men who clack away on adding machines or toil in the virtual hell that is an Excel spreadsheet, one Ducati motorcycle stands far above the rest: the Monster.
It’s customary to praise Ducati for developing the sexiest, best-performing, and most-memorable superbikes on the planet—iconic shapes like the 851 and its smooth brother, the 888; dramatic leaps from the mundane like the 916; radical departures from orthodoxy like the controversial 999; and in-your-face technological feats like the Panigale. To name just the more recent efforts. But Ducati is more than a purveyor of dream machines, it’s also a business. And for the men who clack away on adding machines or toil in the virtual hell that is an Excel spreadsheet, one Ducati motorcycle stands far above the rest: the Monster.

It's remarkable really. 20 years. I bought my first one in 1995 and I haven't been without one since. It remains my "go to" ride. Thanks Miguel...

20 years. Ponder that. The only motorcycles that have been in production that long are class defining, life changing machines. Sportster. Bonneville. Goldwing. Motorcycles that redefined riding and how we did it. And now the Ducati Monster is among them. Clearly something needed to happen that was a proper tip of the hat to a motorcycle like that so we decided to do what it does best, we just went for a ride.
And what a ride it was, a three day road trip from Newport Beach to Carmel for the Quail Motorcycle Gathering. Along the way there were stops at Ducati Newport, Ducati Santa Barbara, Morro Bay, Big Sur and even a couple laps of Laguna Seca. Great roads, people food and riding all ending at the best motorcycle show America has to offer. Epic!

The final destination for the 20th Anniversary Ducati Monster Ride was the Quail Motorcycle Gathering, easily one of our favorite events of the year....

DUCATI UK will be celebrating 20 years of the Monster at Motorcycle Live and they're looking for owners to get involved.
Ducati have setup a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/MonsterUK20th and they're inviting owners to upload images of their Monsters and share their experiences. The images will be used to create a collage on Ducati's stand.
Really excited about this, hope to see you there!
