Almost a quarter of a million Monsters have sold around the world since its 1993 introduction. So, how many of the next quarter of a million Monsters are to be powered by Ducati’s new Monster 795 for Asia? A quick ride brings us closer to the answer.
Ducati isn’t beating around the bush. The Monster might be the most affordable Ducati in Asian markets by a fair margin, but it’s still no less a Ducati by any yardstick. Instantly recognisable as a Monster, the 795 is manufactured in Bologna and assembled in Thailand, with stringent quality control ensuring it lives up to Ducati’s standards of quality and fit-finish.
The 795 is a hybrid; a combination of two existing Monsters. The chassis of the entry level 696 offers convenience for shorter riders thanks to a lower seat height. Repositioned handlebars (sourced from India!) ease the forward lean ergonomics and the foot pegs are likewise repositioned. At the heart of the iconic motorcycle sits the 803cc, Desmodromic valve-train equipped motor from the Monster 796. Ducati knows this combination is best suited for Asians and Indians. New Delhi:
The wait is finally over. The Ducati Monster 795 can be yours for Rs 6.99 lakh, ex-showroom. The Monster 795 was officially launched at the 2012 Auto Expo by Mirko Bordiga, Ducati Asia Pacific CEO and Ashish Chordia Ducati India CEO.
This Ducati which has been specifically developed for the Asian markets now becomes the most affordable Ducati in the Indian market.
It has an 803cc L-twin, air cooled engine which produces 87PS of power and 78Nm of torque at 6250rpm. It has a six speed gear box. To bring the cost down, the 795 has a double-sided swing arm instead of the single on the 796.
It will also have 3-spoke alloy wheels and not the five-spoke ones on the 796.
Considering that the 795 will be made at Ducati's Thailand facility it was initially thought that the price of the bike would be around Rs 5-6 lakh but today’s announcement has meant that many will now have to rework their budgets.
With the Triumph Street Triple now available at Rs 5.75 lakh, the Kawasaki Ninja 650R at Rs 4.57 lakh and the Hyosung GT650N at Rs 4.6 lakh (all prices ex-showroom) Ducati will have to bank on their premiumness to draw in the customer.

Ducati had launched the Monster 795 in Thailand and Malaysia a few weeks back, touting it as the first made-for-Asia version in its popular Monster line-up.
